Title: Variance of primes in arithmetic progressions

Abstract:
This talk is centered around a famous conjecture of Hooley on the variance of primes in arithmetic progressions. We will show how probabilistic tools (moment generating functions, large deviations) can be brought into the picture to make quite precise predictions. The first part will be an introduction to prime counting functions and their explicit formulas.
